EkoDisk and the Environment
The
creation of plastic was a seemingly magnificent discovery back
in the day. Mankind had finally found a material that was cheap
to manufacture, sturdy and durable over a long period of time.
The fact that plastic never decayed was perhaps it's best feature.
That's right, a material was invented that lasted forever,
the perfect "clay" in the hands of engineers and
designers of the day. The problem is, when chemists and marketers
said that it lasts forever they really meant FOREVER, or an
extremely long time anyhow. As a result many plastic items
created in recent generations will be buried in landfills and
will not break down and decay contributing to the life cycle
the way organic materials do.
EkoDisk
was created in 2006 when leading premium disc manufacturer
Five Masks Multimedia made the bold decision
to discontinue manufacturing CDs and DVDs in conventional
plastic-heavy packaging. We said "no" to more and
more plastic and made "less and less plastic" our
goal. Creative
types ourselves, this time we needed to use our creative
muscles for more than entertainment. "There
has to be a better way ... ", we thought. So we set out
to change the way CDs and DVDs are packaged, imagining how
much less plastic there would be if everyone used alternative
packaging for CDs and DVDs rather than traditional jewel cases
and Amaray style cases. Now there's an inspiring thought.
We
made it our mission to build a complete line of eco-friendly CD
and DVD packaging from the ground up, combining the needs of an
artist or business to have a visually stunning package with the
needs of our own (and all species) very existence, which we believe
does not include plastic. We firmly believe that we have succeeded
in our mission. Our pride and joy is the #3 Eko-Kase with it's
sturdy tray that securely holds your disc weighing only a fraction
as much as a jewel case, or even the classic styled eco-friendly
tray for that matter.
We
offer a complete line of alternative packaging for CDs and DVDs
that can prevent up to 136 pounds of plastic from being used for
the manufacturing of 1000 retail ready CDs, one of the most common
quantities ordered. Not only does Eko-Disk offer an exclusive and
complete line of CD
and DVD packaging that is earth friendly, we also do it at a price
that many manufacturers charge for standard jewel case packaging!
EkoDisk
continually looks to develop packaging and processes that improve
our relationship with the environment. Not only do we sell products
that contain far less plastic and help our customers contribute
to the long term care of our natural resources, we also follow
manufacturing practices that encourage reducing consumption and
recycling of many materials used in manufacturing as well as general
business practices.
EkoDisk is committed to reducing overall consumption
of all materials when processing orders and manufacturing. Additionally,
we recycle as many of the following items as we can:
- cardboard
- paper
- newspapers
- magazines
- phone books
- paper bags
- aluminum cans
- glass bottles
- steel cans (food, etc.)
- plastic beverage bottles
- glass jars and bottles
- plastic milk jugs
|
|
We dispose of the following hazardous items properly:
- hazardous waste (cleaning chemicals, paint,
etc.)
- batteries
- computers
- appliances (air conditioners, refrigerators,
etc.)
|
|
EkoDisk also donates items to charities at the bins provided and
drop locations. This helps people in need.
Some items, such as yard waste, are also collected
by the city and brought in big trucks to the recycle
center where it is turned into compost or wood chips to to be reused!
We
are confident that no other CD and DVD manufacturer is doing as
much as we are to promote a healthier planet, both in our commitment
to healthier products and in our overall manufacturing and business
practices.
