Our
Story
The
creation of plastic was a seemingly magnificent discovery back
in the day. Mankind had finally found a material that was cheap
to manufacture, sturdy and durable over a long period of time. The
fact that plastic never decayed was perhaps thought of as it's
best feature. That's right, a material was invented that
lasted forever, the perfect "clay" in the hands of engineers
and designers of the day. The problem is that when chemists (and
marketers) said that it lasted forever, they really meant FOREVER,
or an extremely long time anyhow. As a result many plastic items
created in recent generations will be buried in landfills and will
not break down and decay contributing to the life cycle the way organic
materials do.
EkoDisk.com
was created in consideration of all the plastic that
will ultimately be buried in landfills only to resurface in
time as the landfills settle and the permanent materials hold
there mass. This was a natural evolution from the days when
we were known by a different name and primarily manufactured
using the dominant packaging, jewel cases. Love
of music and experience with media wasn't enough anymore, we
needed to use our creative muscles again. "There
has to be a better way ... ", we thought. So
we set out to change the way CDs and DVDs are packaged, imagining
how much less plastic there would be if everyone used alternative
packaging for CDs and DVDs rather than traditional jewel cases
and Amaray style cases. Now there's an inspiring thought.
We
embarked on an exploration of building a line of cd and dvd packaging
from the ground up, combining the needs of an artist or business
to have a visually stunning package with the needs of our very
being, which we believe does not include plastic! Our pride and
joy is our #3 Eko-Kase with it's sturdy tray that securely holds
your disc weighing only a fraction as much as a jewel case,
or even an original eco-friendly digi-style tray for that matter.
We
came up with a complete line of alternative packaging for CDs and
DVDs that can prevent up to 136 pounds of plastic from being used
for the manufacturing of 1000 retail ready CDs, one of the most
common quantities to be manufactured. We also price our products
on a "cost markup" basis rather than charging what the
market will allow. This means that not only does Eko-Disk.com offer
an exclusive and complete line of CD
and DVD packaging that is earth friendly, we also do it consistantly
priced for less than some manufacturers charge for standard jewel
case packaging! Initially we felt that it was possible to offer
premium packaging at the same price or less, and now after countless
hours of research and development, we believe that we have achieved
our goal of offering a complete line of affordable earth friendly
packaging!
EkoDisk.com
continues with an open mind and desire to remain innovative with
our products as well as our business pratices. Our commitment to
the environment is not limited to our products, not only do we
sell products that contain far less plastic and help our customers
contribute to the long term care of our natural resources, we also
follow established manufacturing practices that encourage
recycling of many materials used in our processes as
well as our general business practices.
We
are committed to recycling as much of the following materials
as we can:
- paper
-
paperboard/cardstock
- corrugated cardboard
- tin cans
- glass containers
- #2 plastic containers
- beverage containers (plastic,
glass, and aluminum)
We
are confident that no other CD and DVD manufacturer
is doing as much as we are to promote a healthier planet, both
in our products and in our overall manufacturing and business practices.
Less
plastic is a good thing, say no!!
